The
Institute of Medicine or IOM was established in 1972 at Tribhuvan University.
This institute was given the responsibility to train and teach healthcare
workers to meet the demand of health care in Nepal. IOM was established with 12
college campuses spread across the country: with three campuses in Kathmandu and
nine outside Kathmandu.
IOM
offers a wide range of courses such as Pharmacy, ANM, CMA, Radiology, and
Proficiency Certificate Course in General Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Health
Laboratory, Traditional Medicine and Physiotherapy. MBBS programme in IOM was
introduces in 1978 with the intake capacity of 22 students but gradually the
capacity has increased now.
The objectives of Institute of Medicine are as follows:
IOM is one of the top institutes in Nepal serving students in almost 29 courses from proficiency certificate level to the highest postgraduate degree in medicine, paramedical, nursing, public health, and traditional medicine through 9 different colleges located at several locations of the country.
